Bourrette chinée is a yarn made from recycled 100% fibers. Made in France. The fibers filled into the yarn are grouped by material for a regular blend containing a percentage of cotton 28%, silk 10%, linen 9%, polyamide 28%, acrylic 20%, and other 5%.
How does recycling work? We collect batches of industrial knitting scraps and used textiles collected by social organizations (Emmaüs, Abbé Pierre Foundation, etc.). They are sorted by color and material. They are then carefully unraveled and frayed without breaking the fiber. Qualities
The colors are obtained without re-dyeing, only by mixing shades of colored bourrettes, until the final shade, with artist's precision! We then proceed to a classic carded spinning while maintaining the artisanal aspect and mottled colors for pleasure. This yarn is sprayed and washed.
Compared to the carbon footprint of a standard yarn, the impact of our Bourrette-chinée is limited to 4%. Thank you for the planet!
Technical characteristics of Bourrette chinée

2650 meters per kilo approximately = 132 meters (or 145 yards) in 50 gr.
- Recommended needles: 4mm to 5mm depending on the model.
- Jersey swatch with 4.5 mm needles: 10 cm = 21 stitches over 26 rows. Knit your swatch and take its measurements: if it is smaller, use a larger needle, if it is larger, a smaller needle (usually half a size is enough).
- Machine wash on wool cycle at 30°C, dry flat. Ironing with steam (not too hot) gives the marled Bourette knit plenty of volume. Before washing the entire knit, test it on your swatch.
